Fiction Submission Guidelines
Currently, submissions are closed.
All submission in the following genres are welcome:
Romance (most sub-categories)
Science Fiction
Thriller
Mystery
Dystopian
Suspense
Horror
Fantasy
Adventure
If you have a book that falls within one of the categories we currently publish, it must also meet the following criteria:
- You must have a completed full-length novel (60,000+ words minimum, depending on genre) or have a fully developed book proposal and the first five chapters of the book written to attach as a sample of your writing style.
- Your story must be original and a fully developed idea prior to submission.
- We accept one submission per email, so in case of multiple submissions, each manuscript should be treated as a separate submission and be sent separately.
- We accept submission from authors, with or without literary agents.
- Submissions should be sent to submissions@butterdragons.com
We do not currently accept or publish submissions for fairy tale retellings, bully romance, billionaire romance, erotica romance, or children's books or picture books. We are not accepting fanfiction submissions.
Edit Your Manuscript Before You Submit
Please do your best to edit your manuscript before you submit it for review for your best chance at being offered a book contract.
Please note, we do understand general errors, and if accepted your manuscript will be professionally edited before publication, this simply serves as a tip to be better noticed by our team.

The material you have submitted is the Author's own creative and/or well researched work.
The material you have submitted is not currently published on any platform or scheduled to be published through any other company.
At all times the right of the Author to the intellectual copyright of their work, will be maintained.
Butterdragons Publishing guarantees the privacy and intellectual property of the Author and maintains said privacy at all times.
No information regarding any Author's personal details, email addresses or similar contact data will be disclosed to any third parties without the express permission of said Author and will only be used for correspondence.
Butterdragons Publishing cannot be held responsible for the loss, damage or non-return of any material sent to us in hardcopy or otherwise. Please ensure you have a copy of whatever you submit to us.
HOW TO SUBMIT A MANUSCRIPT
Please email the following to submissions @ butterdragons.com
Subject line: Pen Name, Genre, Manuscript Submission or Book Proposal
In the body of the email please include the following:
Pen Name
Legal Name
Any current or past publications
Genre Representing
Manuscript Word Count
A brief 2-3 paragraph summary of what your manuscript or proposal submission is about.
Attach edited manuscript formatted in the following way:
12pt
Times New Roman
1.5 lines paragraph spacing
2.5 cm (1 inch) margins
please submit a .doc, .docx or .pdf file only
(If it is a book proposal and not the full manuscript, please submit the first five chapters as a sample of your writing)
Again, please only submit one manuscript at a time. If you have previously submitted to us and have not heard back, please do not send a second submission as this will result in an automatic denial.
If your manuscript or book proposal isn't a good fit for us to publish, feel free to send us another submission for a different book.
If we decide to publish your manuscript, we can then have a conversation with you about potentially publishing other books you've written.
Once your submission is received, it will be considered for publication by our team , who will assess content, subject matter, and suitability.
If our team considers the work appropriate for our company, we will put forward an offer for publication.

Here are the answers to some of the most common questions about manuscript submissions.
How long does it take to publish a book and what happens after I submit my manuscript?
It takes on average anywhere from six to nine months for a raw manuscript to be published and the process requires numerous steps.
Do you accept unsolicited manuscripts?
Yes, we accept unsolicited manuscripts, and we review all submissions within 30-45 days. Note: Due to an increase in recent submissions it may take us longer to provide a formal response to a submitted manuscript.
Do you accept book proposals?
Yes, we do accept book proposal submissions for fictions books. Please see the requirements above for submission.
What if I don't have an agent?
We accept submissions from authors directly, although we do accept submission from literary agents.
How much does it cost?
We're a traditional book publishing company. That means we do not charge a fee to publish books and work on the principle of shared royalties.
Do you guarantee you will publish my book?
No, we cannot guarantee we will publish your book.
Even if you meet all the guidelines on this page, we review all submitted manuscripts and decide on a case-by-case basis if the author’s work is suitable for our company.
Do You Accept Physical Submissions?
No, we do not review any physical manuscripts. Any submissions sent to us by mail will be discarded, so please save a tree, and read the submission guidelines above.
